About WiDS
The Women in Data Science (WiDS) initiative aims to inspire and educate data scientists worldwide, regardless of gender, and to support women in the field.
WiDS started as a one-day technical conference at Stanford in November 2015. Years later, WiDS is a global movement that includes a number of worldwide initiatives.
We are proud to bring the international Women in Data Science (WiDS) Conference to Sri Lanka featuring Sri Lankan women working in the field of Data Science.

WiDS Sri Lanka is independently organized by WiDS Sri Lanka Ambassadors to be part of the mission to increase participation of women in data science and to feature outstanding women doing outstanding work. Having started in 2023 with just 3 members, we are now a proud 26 member team

The WiDS Datathon is an opportunity to discover and hone data science skills while solving an interesting and critical social impact challenge. Whether you are an aspiring data scientist or a data science enthusiast, WiDS provides a supportive environment for participants to connect, share interests, learn from, help each other, and have a lot of fun!

Past Datathon Workshops
Datathon workshop 2023
- The WiDS Datathon 2023 Challenge aimed to address the impact of climate change by focusing on long-term weather forecasting. The workshop covered data cleaning, data modeling to extract insights using Regression trees and Neural Networks, and a full hands-on session where participants were able to apply the concepts they had learned in the previous sessions to a real-world dataset and an overview of the datathon.
